You're sitting in a tavern...

Posted by Jason Bostic on

My adventure begins, not with a dark stranger in the corner of a tavern commanding my attention, but with the chance meeting of two souls who were obviously meant to be together.

I have long been a fantasy geek. I was raised in a house that encouraged imagination and assured me that as long as I was truly passionate about something, I could make it work for me. Creating is in my blood. My grandfather was a creative woodworker for decades, my father was an artist, my mother is a creative writer. I have been drawing and writing since I was but a wee lad. And as for fantasy, I have been reading, playing, dreaming, and creating fantasy worlds for decades! I went to college for it. Didn't finish that program, though and ended up with a useless psychology degree... Since then, I have been working random jobs off and on. I was a barista at a Starbucks, a "Mix Master" at a Cold Stone Creamery, and even a kindergarten teacher for a while! And then something happened that changed my life forever. I met my soulmate. I know it sounds cheesy, but when I met Emily the first time, I immediately fell in love with her. And she with me! We began a journey together that will last us the rest of our lives. Little did I know then just how much I would get from her and her family.

Shortly before our marriage in 2015, I began working with her parents, Stewart and Cindy, at their company. Stewart and Cindy have been in the leather industry for collectively over 80 years, working mostly as distributors but also making specialty items on the side. They have made some fantastic pieces including drink coasters, jeans labels, furniture pieces, belts, etc. Since I started working with them, I have learned the ways of a leather craftsman and have become the fabricator for this side of the business.

In addition to introducing me to a new and exciting medium, Emily and her family have introduced me to the fantastic world of the Highland Games community. Because of strong ties to their Scottish heritage, they are active members of this community that includes people from all around the globe. There are athletes who compete in the games, culinary artists who share traditional foods, musicians, weapons smiths, and, most exciting to me, costumers and designers!

So, we take my history as a hobbyist in costuming, art and design, my new profession as a leather worker, and a whole new community who are as interested in historical costumes as they are fantasy ones, mix that all together and you get Dragon Drop Treasures. It was just a silly idea when I signed on with the family company to start selling armor. but it took hold and grew into something none of us could ignore. It's been coming a long time now but thanks to a little know-how and a lot of work, I would love to introduce you to our little corner of the interwebs. Please, let us know what you think and if you have any comments or suggestions for the shop! Email me at either info@dragondroptreasures.com or jbosticmtc@gmail.com

Thanks and enjoy. Happy adventuring!
